Fact File

Vessel Named by Mrs Diane Drever, wife of Skipper Charles Drever M. B. E.

21 Apr 1980 The Junella was host to Prince Charles on a 3 day fishing trip to the Hebrides fishing 60 miles NW of the Butt of Lewis at times force 5-7 gusts were blowing.

28th Sept 1980 Skipper Mike Kellor - During a violent force nine storm the Junella was grounded on Comet Rocks NW of Eilean Troday, Isle of Skye - Crew were taken off by the Stornoway Lifeboat which had battled the 35 miles in huge seas to reach the Junella. Three times the Stornoway lifeboat pulled alongside the Junella, rising and falling seven feet in the treacherous swells, to take off the crew as they jumped from the rope ladder, one by one. A Sea King helicopter from Lossiemouth and two sister vessels stood bye. The rescued crew were taken to the Shipwrecked Mariners Society in Stornoway were they were given a meal and dry clothes. The Skipper and crew had nothing but praise for the lifeboatmen who at times risked their own vessel during the rescue.  On 1st Oct still with atrocious weather a nine man salvage crew under skipper Charles Drever boarded the Junella to attach a tow line. The Junella was then pulled free by her sister ship the Northella H206 ( Skpr Ted Fox ) and after been towed clear of the Minches, the Junella made the port of stornoway under her own power. The Harbour Master had refused her entry in the fear she may sink and block the harbour, but the skipper at the time Charles Drever took her in anyway. She later returned to Hull for repairs.
